By the year 1998, the Colt's third generation went under production by the Mitsubishi Company. The car is also named as Mirage and became a very profitable car for the Japanese automobile company. The model is still being manufactured thereby, being the longest living car. It shares certain elements from the restyled Galant and was a very easy to drive car. The gasoline engines ranges in capacities being 1.3 L to 1.8 L. the smallest as well as the least powerful unit of the car was the 1.3 L unit which offered an output of 69 hp however, the most powerful unit of 1.8 L GTi capable provided 126 hp and 162Nm of the torque.

This generation of the Mirage or Colt experienced a new platform called the "CC" platform which paved way for body-shell restyling. The edgy look of the car was dampened and the engine capacity ranges was revised and were attached with new equipments. Remarkably, this new platform managed to attract the Proton Motor Company which later on acquired the rights of its use in the year 1997. The vehicle is being sold under the name of Proton Satria in many markets which has 3-doors and Proton Wira which is available in 4 and 5-door options.

Reaching in its 5th generation, the Colt experienced some visual improvements. The design was brand new and the power sources were refreshed with two engines of petrol having capacities of 1.3 L to 1.6 L. although, the reliability and handling aspects if the car are good, however, the model is not yet managed to grab a position among the safest cars. The base level trims have only a standard airbag for the driver whereas, the anti-lock brakes are also absent. However, the low servicing and maintenance cost and its fuel efficiency still renders it to be a good option to go for.
