Zafira is the first ever Opel built compact van, having been a popular MPV from its inception. According to Opel, Zafira seems to acquire all characteristics of an everyday multi functional vehicle. Reliable and dynamic, the initial popularity of Zafira is its highly flexible interior Flex 7 which permits the third row seats to be folded completely to the floor increasing the boot space. Zafira can easily accommodate 7 passengers that will cruise the vehicle at a max speed of 137mph utilizing the vehicle's performance model.

The Zafira in 2003 underwent a facelift sporting flashier grille that was outlined using chrome accents. Slightly redesigned headlights, side high beam encasements were also among the changes made while the air intake at the front end remained the same. Even in this facelift, the engine range was the same including 4 valve cylinder head units which were slightly expanded through the changing of diesel 2.0 liter engine by a more powerful and enhanced turbocharged version. The Zafira was now available in new trims with raised equipment levels named the Design and Maxx edition where both were evenly priced.

Second generation Zafira came with a redesigned exterior along with slight adornments in a swiftly drawn automobile. The changes made the Zafira a much more appealing vehicle. Bearing the enhanced Flex 7 system of seating and the IDSPlus modern chassis couple with the Continuous Damping Control offered imp[roved comfort in ride and handling making the new generation Zafira an everyday, reliable vehicle besides a car with a well organized interior. A special sunroof option was given which crossed the opaque beam longitudinally and was not just an adornment rather served as a small holder compartment.

The only second generation facelift was introduced by Opel in 2008 when it was given a sporty look. This look was owed to the courtesy of redesigned rear and front fascias. A two part fully chromed radiator grille fins were given to the front end along with chromed headlamp housings, hood tampering and a chrome beam that was wide and has an integrated logo of Opel. Opel also updated its engine range and launched its ECOTEC 1.6 power unit with the extensively economical versions of common rail CDTI 1.7 liter turbo diesel. By late 2011, it is expected that the Zafira's third generation will be seen in the markets.
