Volvo launched manufacture in 2010 of cars model S40, modification of D3 R-Design and finished it in 2011. This vehicle has four doors, the body chassis is shaped like a sedan, weight 1.4 tons and length 4.5 meters, which allows a seat 5 men in sum.

«S40 D3 R-Design» car with a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission is connected to the front-wheels. This car can speed up for 9.6 seconds to 100 km/h, with a max speed of 205 km/h, owing to a 5-cylinders diesel motor engine with a «common rail fuel system», which generate a maximum power of 150 hp at 3500 rpm.

Fuel tank capacity of this automobile is 60 l of diesel, so when mixed fuel rate is 5.6 l per 100 km (4.5 l on the suburban, 7.6 l in the city), that allows to go about 1072 km without refueling.

The forward wheels of this automobile have ventilated disks, 300 mm brakes and fixed to the undercarriage with help of suspension type «MacPherson, independent, coil springs» and equipped with stabilizer bar. Back wheels have disks, 278 mm brakes and attached to the body chassis through suspension «Multilink, coil springs» and equipped sway bar. Tires have the following dimensions - 205/50R17.

According to the information of Euro NCAP crash test, this model of Volvo S40 gained the maximum quantity of stars - 5, which indicates that it is a highly safe car. Furthermore to passive systems of safety (passenger, side, head/curtain, driver airbags), it is also equipped with dynamic safety such as Traction control, Brake assistant, ABS, ESP, EBD.
