Production modification D3 R-Design of car models V40 was launched in 2012 by Volvo. This five-door hatchback has a length of 4.4 meters, weight 1.4 tons and is assigned to fit 5 person total.

«V40 D3 R-Design» is a front-wheel drive vehicle with a 6-speed sequential automatic gear shift. This vehicle can be accelerated for 9.3 s to 100 km/h, with a max speed of 205 km/h, due to a 5-cylinders diesel motor with a «common rail fuel system», which produce a maximum output of 150 horsepower at 3500 rpm.

Fuel consumption is 6.9 liters in the city driving mode, on the track 4.3 l, and the intermediate fuel consumption is 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers. Gas tank capacity is 60 l of diesel, what provides to go approximately 1133 kilometers without refueling.

The forward wheels of this model have ventilated disks, 300 mm brakes and attached to the body chassis through suspension «MacPherson, independent, coil springs» and equipped sway bar. Back wheels have disks, 280 mm brakes and fixed to the undercarriage with help of suspension type «Multilink, coil springs» and equipped stabilizer bar. Tires have the next measure - 225/45R17.

In conformity with the data of Euro NCAP crash test, this model of Volvo V40 got the maximal quantity of stars - five, indicating that it is a very safe vehicle. Furthermore to passive safety features (side, head/curtain, passenger, driver airbags), it is also equipped with dynamic systems of safety such as ABS, Brake assistant, Traction control, ESP, EBD.
