The Audi's 200 model was launched in the year 1984 being termed as the improved version of the deluxe variant of the Audi 100 model. The model was made available with a variety of petrol engines range and the C3 Group Volkswagen platform served as its base. This model by the name of the Audi 5000 was also released in the auto markets of North America however the action was discontinued due to reportings of numerous acceleration problems. However later on the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) confirmed that a majority of the accidents that occurred were due to a driver's negligence and not because of any technical fault in the car. However since the model has faced a bad reputation, the production of the Audi 5000 was discontinued in the United States.
