AUDI TT Coupe · photos, packages and modifications
When it comes to visual impact there are not many cars that can rival the Audi TT. It still reflects its design roots to its initial phase in 1998 however it still looks unique and fresh. The Audi TT utilizes the same chassis as the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. The TT also offers the choice of a wide variety of diesel and petrol engines along with an all wheel or front wheel drive. The Audi TT can be defined as the revolutionary Audi Magnetic ride which presents sports settings and comfort level along with the beautiful handling of the car without actually compromising a bit on the ride quality. The range topper version of the 335 bhp TT Rs is awfully powerful whereas the diesel 2.0 TDI version offers a 53.3 mpg. TT roadster an open top model is also available in the range.
2008 saw the second generation of the Audi TT still holding the out of line position owing largely to its crisp and clean lines. All cars of the model acquire a rear wing which automatically shoots out when the speed exceeds 80 mph whereas the Black edition and S line models come with a subtle body kit providing a rather forceful look. The base spec sport models also acquire alloy wheels of 17 inches whereas the interior includes partial leather in all cars of the range. For those who feel the wind can choose the soft top Roadster though that will be all as the Audi TT Coupe does not offer a hard top compared to its rivals the Mercedes SLK and the BMW Z4.
Other than the atrocious TT RS, Audi TT offers three other types of engines. Available in the entry level is the 1.8 litre petrol turbo followed by the next inhe range is the 2.0 TFSI engine. Both these engines are effective and advanced and the larger engine too provides 39 mpg. Diesel-a-holics can go for the 2.0 litre 168 bhp TDI which offers 53.3 mpg as its fuel consumption. All TT models are responsive and balanced however the optional feature of the Magnetic ride is worth paying more for. When choosing the Sport and comfort modes the suspension that has been upgraded offers automatic adaptation to the conditions of the road. Also choosing the automatic gearbox using S tronic should be opted for as it is among the fastest shifting, leveled and most efficient automatic gearbox available in the market. The petrol models of the TT are available with the option of front and all wheel drive however the diesel versions are deprived of the Audi's symbolic Quattro system.
The TT is also a safe car equipped with two passenger and stage driver airbags, Isofix child seats mountings and ESP. The car also shoulders a five star rating given by the Euro NCAP crash protection experts. Also the ownership record of the TT is quite impressive, the car resting at the 50th position in the 2012 driver power survey.
The interior is more style based compared to being practical. However the space provided inside is reasonable and plenty of space for the front seaters. The back seats are though tight to sit in and kids have complained of being cramped at the back. The rear area is good to be used for storage purpose and the rear seats split fold allowing a boot space of 700 litres compared to the unfolded 290 litres. These figures are incredible for a coupe.
