Chevrolet Lumina APV was introduced into the market as a 1990 model, launched along with Chevy Lumina Sedan. Lumina was given a new name in 1997, known as Chevrolet Venture. The APV came with a seat capacity of around seven people. It had five rear seats, which could be removed and reconfigured individually. It was given the name of APV "All Purpose Vehicle" because the feature mentioned allowed this car to accommodate both the people and luggage. The models that came later also came with child seats that were built-in.

The feature of having a remote controlled power sliding door, which eventually became common in all minivans, was first introduced as an innovative feature by General Motors in this particular vehicle. Instead of being carpeted, the interior floor of this car is rubber-matted. There are some models that also have the level ride package. This package is used for air mattresses, to inflate tires and also for other equipment.

The car comes in different shapes. The earlier models were sleek, with sloped and long windshields. The newer ones had a more traditional look, which did not have a black painted roof, and the nose was also shortened.

You would find that this was the first car with such innovative designs at that time. The 3.8L 3800 Series V6 engine is able to deliver high acceleration, along with greater torque. Therefore, at that time, this car was the most powerful minivan.
