In 2000, the third generation Hyundai Elantra model was released along with the codename as XD. All the car models were equipped along with the features of power windows, front airbags, steering, air conditioning and power lacks, which were treated as the major improvement. There was a facelift received by the Elantra model all the way throughout 2003, which would probably make the set to get the codename as XD2. This facelift also came along with the visuals as altered one with the overall performance alteration.

The facelift version of this model was the 2003 version, which was the part of third generation Elantra. It had designed with the included features of new bumpers, new front and rear lights and the new grille. The touch up for the interior was given by the dashboard redesign. It was also available with efficient features including a small lip spoiler, better suspension, alloy wheels and leather seats. Even though the Sedan model came with special features of alloy wheels, special trim level with special paint, wood trim and leather interior, the production was continued until 2006.
