Manufactured as four door sedan as well as a four door estate Renault 18 was initially introduced in the year 1978. Interesting point to highlight here is that this was the first car from its makers that was to be promoted in front of global audiences. It was produced in a number of plants across the globe and export was carried out to a good number of markets. Like manufacturing was carried out in:

• Australia
• Spain
• Uruguay

The export was done to:

• Ireland
• Italy
• Norway
• Senegal

Production continued till 1986 after this it was replaced by Renault 21.
