AUDI 100 · photos, packages and modifications

Audi 100 is known to be the first car produced to be manufactured in union with the Volkswagen Group in 1968. The Audi 100 was available as a sedan /saloon with four doors and was based on the C1 platform. The model provided a hp rating of 100 PS and was thus name plated 100. Later in the model saw an addition of two body styles including the 100 Coupe S and the two door saloon car. The new 100 sedan using its 1.8 litre engine unit delivering 80 to 100 hp partnered with an automatic 3 speed gearbox for the 100 LS which was the top of the range car in the model and a manual 4 speed transmission for the rest of the cars. The 100 LS also underwent slight design change in 1973 with altered headlights and new grille.

The next generation of the Audi 100 saw a change in the platform opting for Volkswagen's platform C2 and developing the model making them available for the masses. Initially the Audi 100 model was made available in a coupe model of two doors or a four door sedan cum saloon model however later on Audi 100 also got a five door car bearing a body styled as a hatchback known as the Avant. The 100 Sedan was a planned progression of the initial model only with a configuration of an inline 5 cylinder engine and a rounder body design. The same later model of the 100 was launched for North America and European markets.

1982 saw another Audi third generation model of the 100 available in two variations the original 4 door sedan cum saloon model and a new 5 door wagon cum estate model named the "Avant". Avant featured better aerodynamics compared to the latter model. 100 Avant along with aerodynamics also introduced better technological features including the Procon Ten safety system which was programmed to contraction tension. It provided room for the driver in case of frontal impact through pulling the steering wheel in. The same model by the name of the Audi 5000 was also launched in the US market but saw very low sales volume due to fears over the model's acceleration system and Audi was forced to withdraw the model from the North American market. Later however the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed that the occurred accidents were due to the negligence of the driver and not the the car's technical issues.

The 100 model's fourth generation was launched in 1991 as the Audi 200/100 models using the Volkswagen's C4 platform. The model presented variations of wagon/estate and sedan/saloon models to choose from by a large public. The latest engine given to the Sedan was the SOHC, 2.8 litre V6 petrol unit along with Audi's Quattro system available as an option for all 100/200 range.The option of choosing the automatic ZF-4 speed gearbox was also available. Audi replaced the 10 model with its A6 line in 1995 which was actually a redesigned version of the 100 altogether, but the 100 model was produced till 1997 before completely being removed by Audi.
